A would-be hex player from Spain. I enjoy the simplicity of the game, but I dislike my total lack of any understanding of what's going on. I'm trying to improve, the same way I do with Go (which I also love, but only from time to time).

You can find me (easily) on Little Golem, and also (maybe) on kurnik. LG is your best bet. Feel free to send me an invitation, I never refuse an hex game. Playing is improving! (I hope!)
* How did you become interested in Hex?

I use to play a lot of 9x9 go games in LittleGolem and one day I decided to try some different games. Hex was one of them. Also, having read A Beautiful Mind I thought the game may be interesting.

* Why did you decide to start pursuing it more seriously?

I used to be a bad loser (not anymore :) and wanted to improve my rating, then I found the simplicity and concept of the game very appealing

* Before you started playing Hex, having only heard about it, what did you think about it?

Another board game without any deepness or players.

* Did it turn out to be anything like you expected it to?

No way, it's a really deep game (not as deep as Go, but as nice) but with really simple rules. As Edward Lasker said, I think that if there exists other intelligent life forms, they may be playing Go or some connecting game like Hex.

* What could we do to make Hex more popular?

Playing with friends, letting people know something about it. Also, University clubs may be a great source of players in some situations.

RBerenguel: Further changes

There are two different types of loose connections, both of which are described below.

Type I
<hex>R2 C3 Q1 Ha1 Hc2</hex>

The pieces on this board are able to connect to each other through a bridge by placing a piece on either b1 och b2, that is if they're not prevented to do so.

The two stars on this board shows which positions can be used to break the threat of a loose connection:

<hex>R2 C3 Q1 Ha1 Sb1 Sb2 Hc2</hex>

These are the same places at which the horizontal player wants to place additional pieces in order to connect the blue pieces.

Type II
This connection is a bit weaker than Type I.

<hex>R3 C4 Q1 Ha2 Hd2</hex>

The blue player threatens to connect the pieces by either playing c1 or b3:
<hex>R3 C4 Q1 Ha2 Hd2 Sb3 Sc1</hex>
which form two bridges between the original pieces.

The obvious way for the red player to stop the blue is to play either b2 or c2:
<hex>Q1 R3 C4 Ha2 Pb2 Pc2 Hd2</hex>

This is a reasonable defense because either of the two moves (b2 or c2) will block potential bridge connections using either c1 or b3 (only one example shown):

<hex>Q1 R3 C4 Ha2 Vb2 Bc1 Hd2 Rb1</hex>

I think we (everybody) MUST start completing this wiki (we are indebted to hex truth!) so I just wrote this small blurb. But as a hex newbie, I need help. Is ok that vertical and red may be used equivalently (I follow the red/blue guidelines Littlegolem has). Also, black is vertical or horizontal, usually? I don't really know. Finally, vertical, black and red should point to the same page (this one).
Hello,

It's a good idea completing this wiki. I can mostly participate on programming computer hex (2years ago I made an AI for Y (for school) which is not strong but this made me get informed about the topic). When I have more time I'll try to extend the article or to add some stuffs.

About this article I suggest we just don't create a link towards black or vertical because it redirects here so it is no use for the reader. I am changing it. Feel free to put it back like it was before I modify but then tell me why ;-).

Hi,

I think we (everybody) MUST start completing this wiki (we are indebted to hex truth!) so I just wrote this small blurb. But as a hex newbie, I need help. Is ok that vertical and red may be used equivalently (I follow the red/blue guidelines Littlegolem has). Also, black is vertical or horizontal, usually? I don't really know. Finally, vertical, black and red should point to the same page (this one).

Thanks for your attention,--RBerenguel 20:18, 12 November 2007 (CET)
