John Forbes Nash Jr. (1928-2015) was an economist, a mathematician, and one of the inventors of the game of Hex.

He invented Hex independently of Piet Hein in 1948, though the game was called Nash at the time, to honour its inventor. (See History of Hex for more details.)

Nash was the subject of the bestselling book A Beautiful Mind. In 2001, the book was made into a movie starring Russell Crowe as Nash; the movie was highly successful and won several Academy Awards, including Best Picture. (source)
